Joseph Bologne, a.k.a. Black Mozart, takes center stage in this film. Born in the Caribbean, Bologne was the illegitimate son of a slave and later received education in France. As years went by, he became a renowned fencing master, which also served as his entry into the French high society. With his music and operas, he rose to the upper echelons of Parisian society, even catching the attention of Marie Antoinette, until a court scandal exposed his true identity.
