“The Kite Runner”, Afghan author Khaled Hosseini's best-selling novel, tells the story of Amir, an Afghan immigrant living in California, who returns to his homeland under Taliban rule to help the troubled son of his childhood friend, Hassan.

Amir, living in California, is the son of a wealthy merchant family from Kabul who migrated to America after the Taliban regime took over the country. During his childhood years in Kabul, he formed a strong friendship with Hassan, the son of the house servant. However, during a kite-flying competition, Amir betrays his beloved friend by turning his back on him when he could have helped him. This act of betrayal haunts him for many years.

Years later, Amir learns that Hassan and his wife have been killed by the Taliban. In response, he decides to return to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to find Hassan's troubled son and rescue him from a life of slavery.

Directed by Marc Forster, known for "Finding Neverland," and presented by DreamWork Pictures, "The Kite Runner" explores the themes of friendship, guilt, redemption, and the consequences of one's actions. The screenplay was co-written by David Benioff, known for his work on "25th Hour," and Khaled Hosseini.
